The music world was stunned at the passing of Motorhead founder and frontman Lemmy Kilmister on Dec. 28 after a short bout with a particularly aggressive form of cancer. Kilmister was first diagnosed with the disease on Dec. 26 and died two days later. He was a heavy metal figurehead in music and is being mourned by many in the music industry. A lesser known fact about Kilmister was that he had a short stint as a rodeo for Jimi Hendrix early on in his time in the music industry. There has been an outpouring of support in the music world following the death of Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, but Dave Grohl has gone above and beyond. The Foo Fighters' frontman has actually gotten a tattoo in honor of Kilmister. Grohl had new ink of Motorhead's Ace of Spades logo tattooed on his forearm to commemorate his fallen friend and collaborator. -

Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Motörhead to Tour After Monsters of Rock Festival
Some of heavy metal's biggest names are reportedly joining forces for a tour this spring. Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest and Motörhead have confirmed one date in Brazil directly following the Monsters of Rock Festival in April. According to the production company Hits Entretenimento, the three acts will hit the road on the Monsters Tour, Pollstar reports. Osbourne will headline the festival April 25 in addition to Motörhead, Black Veil Brides, Rival Sons, Coal Chamber and Primal Fear. Kiss is slated for the headline spot the following day with Manowar, Accept, Unisonic, Yngwie Malmsteen and Steel Panther. Judas Priest will join in on both days. The first date of the Monsters Tour is April 30 at Porto Alegre's Zequinha Stadium. No further dates have been announced. Previously, the Prince of Darkness has linked up with both acts. He shared the bill with Judas Priest at a concert in Canada in 2008. Lemmy and the boys joined Osbourne on the Blizzard of Ozz tour in the early 1980s, Ultimate Classic Rock notes. -

Heavy metal legends Motörhead will be setting off on their Motörboat music cruise on Sept. 22, but today, one of the cruise's headlining acts announced that they have dropped out. Billboard reports that thrash legends Megadeth have been forced to cancel their appearance on the Motorböat cruise due to frontman Dave Mustaine's recent back surgery, which will require him to rest for the next eight weeks. -

Metal fans (and hopefully music fans in general) were thrilled to hear today that Glenn Danzig—frontman for his self-titled band, Samhain and of The Misfits—will be releasing an Elvis Presley covers album during 2015. It got us thinking: There are way too few Elvis covers out there played by metal bands. Discounting a band that's whole schtick is being half metal, half-Elvis (Volbeat), it's tough to find worthwhile Elvis covers in the metal world. We, for one, totally hope this changes.
