• Idina Menzel Performs Joni Mitchell's 'River' on 'The Tonight Show' [WATCH]

Idina Menzel put out a Christmas album titled "Holiday Wishes" in October. The singer takes on the usual standards like "White Christmas," "Silent Night" and "Baby It's Cold Outside," but her shining moment comes closer to the end of the album. Menzel decided to include a breathtaking version of Joni Mitchell's Christmas-themed classic "River." Her performance of the tune on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" blew viewers away. Yes, we know you can sing, Idina. We have all heard "Let It Go" a million times, but this performance is devastatingly beautiful. Menzel lends her Broadway pipes and pop sensibilities to Mitchell's tune and lets the songwriter's words do the rest. "I wish I had a river so long / I would teach my feet to fly / Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on / I made my baby say goodbye," she sings in the video below. Check it out. "River" is off Mitchell's 1971 release "Blue." It is regarded as one of the folk artist's best pieces.
  • 'X Factor' UK Finale Had Worst Ratings Since 2005

Simon Cowell returned to U.K.'s "The X Factor" this season, but he did nothing to stem the show's ratings decline. Sunday, Dec. 14, marked the fourth straight year the season finale dropped its viewership numbers, with only 9.4 million tuning in, compared to 9.7 million last year. Still, Cowell was positive about the show on social media and sent a friendly tweet to those who helped out this year: We just got home. What a great night! So happy for @Bhaenow . Sad for @FleurEast. But what a final! I felt very proud tonight. — Simon Cowell (@SimonCowell) December 15, 2014 I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who worked on the show this year. — Simon Cowell (@SimonCowell) December 15, 2014 "Billboard" reported the finale numbers for every season of the show and noted that this year's 9.4 million mark was The X Factor's lowest since 2005, when it drew 9.3 million. Cowell already expressed regret this year for his handling of the American version of the show, which he decided to cancel in February.
  • Taylor Swift and '1989' Still on Top; Pentatonix Still Challenging, AC/DC Debuts New Album 'Rock Or Bust'

Taylor Swift keeps on trucking following the Thanksgiving sales binge, keeping her no. 1 spot for 1989 for a fourth week with 244,000 equivalent sales. All told, Swift has been atop the Billboard 200 for 29 total weeks through her career. The only women ahead of her are Mariah Carey wit h30 weeks and Whitney Houston with 46, and it seems Swift could catch the former act next week if 1989 keeps its sales up.
  • Highest Paid Musicians 2014: Dr. Dre Tops The List (Duh) but Beyoncé, One Direction and Justin Bieber Make Bank as Well

Hip-hop might be the genre that puts the most emphasis on dollars earned but we'd be kidding ourselves if big acts from every scene had their eyes on their wallets. And so do we as fans...just Google an act and see "net worth" doesn't come up as a popular search term. Forbes released its annual list of the Top 30 highest earning musicians from the previous year and you probably guessed who took the top spot: Dr. Dre.

  • Jessie Ware Shares Music Vid for 'You & I (Forever)' from Album 'Tough Love' [WATCH]

English pop singer Jessie Ware has shared the music video for her latest single "You & I (Forever)," which you can check out below. The video opens with a quote — presumably by Ware — saying how the song is "celebrating the person you love being by your side," and features Ware singing the song from inside a photo booth, intercut with images of other people posing inside the booth themselves, mostly with friends and loved ones. It is quite similar to Robyn and Kindness's "Who Do You Love?" music video, only a bit grainier. You can check out Jessie Ware's "You & I (Forever)" music video here: "You & I (Forever)" is the third single to be shared from Jessie Ware's latest album "Tough Love," following "Say You Love Me" and the album's title track. "Tough Love" was released Oct. 13 and is Ware's second studio album following her 2012 debut "Devotion."

We at Music Times have been fairly grim when reporting album sales for 2014. As you know by now, only one album, released during this year has gone platinum (Taylor Swift's 1989) and only a few more titles threaten to crack one million before 2015 strikes. Frankly, things in the UK seem even worse. Last week featured the highest sales week for a debut thus far during 2014 as Now 89 sold 283,000 copies. The record-holder before Now 89? Now 88 sold 182,000 copies during its first week when it came out during June.
