• Queen Latifah and ‘R&B Divas’ Creator Nicci Gilbert to Produce New Reality Show

It seems as though rapper/singer/actor/producer (whew!) Queen Latifah has been signing deals left and right these days to bring new content to a TV near you. After recently performing in The Wiz (as The Wiz) and inking a deal with Lee Daniels for a new musical drama, her latest venture has her teaming up with former Brownstone singer and R&B Divas creator Nicci Gilbert for a brand-new reality show focusing on "the redemption of six different women who, at one point or another, were caught in the midst of scandal," according to Wetpaint.
  • ‘The Wiz’ Choreographer Fatimah Robinson Gets New NBC Show About Her Life

Famed choreographer Fatimah Robinson will soon be choreographing a whole new routine, maneuvering around cameras there to capture her life for a new NBC dance drama. Fresh off the success of The Wiz, Robinson is teaming up with the live TV adaptation's producers once again to work on this new project. Producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan seem to have a lot of respect for Robinson as a artist, as evidenced by Zadan singing her praises after tapping her to do choreography for The Wiz.

  • Beyonce May Join Mary J Blige, Queen Latifah in NBC's 'The Wiz'

NBC's live production of The Wiz could get a huge star added to the bill. Days after Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah were confirmed for the cast, today (July 30), rumors hit hard that none other than Beyoncé could be taking on one of the play's big roles.
  • Michael Jackson and Bad Movies: A Brief History of The King's Filmography

It was revealed this week that Michael Jackson had once hoped to take on the role of Jar Jar Binks in 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,' which would have put the greatest pop star of all time on the cast list as one of the most reviled film characters of all time. Fortunately, it didn't happen: Jackson wanted to do the part in prosthetics, similar to the "Thriller" video, while creator George Lucas wanted to go with CGI for the character. Jackson may not have been a total failure on-camera—the aforementioned music video is still among the most influential, and best, in history-but that doesn't save him from a largely disastrous career in film. Jackson rarely graced Hollywood productions...but when he did, they tended to be awful. Check out these four films that featured the King of Pop.
  • 40 Years of 'The Wiz': Music Times Chooses Five Classic Scenes from The Film Adaptation, Starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson

We're not Broadway people but we know a classic when we see it, and The Wiz is classic. The idea of adapting a cinematic masterpiece such as The Wizard of Oz into a new musical—set far from the rural lands of the original in the urban streets of New York City—could have fallen flat but William F. Brown's play was anything but. We hope that the musical gets a Broadway revival (the last attempt, during 2004, was abandoned) but until then the best way to check out The Wiz is via the 1978 film version starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Richard Pryor and more. We've whittled down a short list of our favorite scenes from that film to celebrate the play's 40th anniversary.
