Glen "SPOT" Lockett, who served as the house producer of SST Records, has died at the age of 72, the former label co-owner confirmed.
On Facebook, former SST Records co-owner Joe Carducci revealed in a post that Lockett died Saturday at Morningside Healthcare in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He did not mention his exact cause of death but noted the health issues the in-house producer went through before his passing.
According to Carducci, Lockett had been on oxygen after suffering fibrosis due to his impaired lung function. While waiting for a potential lung transplant, the music producer suffered a stroke.
"His principal sideline was as a record producer-engineer and an architect of the natural approach to recording a band in the punk era," he wrote. "He started in Hermosa Beach playing and recording jazz and he took the primacy of live jazz playing into recording bands against prevailing attempts to soften or industrialize a back-to-basics arts movement in sound."
Following Lockett's death, Carducci revealed that he would publish the things he wrote, including the ones he created for Hermosa Beach. He added that Lockett spent years of his life writing "Decline and Fall of Alternative Civilization" and producing dramatization.

Remembering Glen Lockett
During the early days of his career, Lockett initially pursued his career as an author by writing "Easy Reader" under the name Spot.
He soon met Greg Ginn and became the bassist for Panic - which was soon renamed Black Flag.
From 1979 to 1986, Lockett worked on several albums while serving as the SST Records head. Among the musicians and bands he collaborated with include Black Flag, Saint Vitus, Mood of Defiance, Descendants, and Meat Puppets.

Meanwhile, he added several albums under his belt after producing and engineering the tracks: "Jealous Again," "Damaged," "Family Man," and "Slip It In" with Black Flag; "Hallow's Victim" and "The Walking Dead EP" with Saint Vitus; "The Punch Line" EP, "Bean-Spill" EP, and "Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat" EP with Minutemen.
Lockett also worked as a photographer. He published his photography book, "Sounds of Two Eyes Opening," in 2014.
