Nirvana's late frontman Kurt Cobain appeared in headlines again decades after his death.

Cobain was only 27 years old when he was found dead inside his home in Seattle by an electrician named Gary Smith, who was installing a security system in the house. While his death was ruled a suicide, there have been undying theories about his wife, Courtney Love, being responsible for the tragedy.

Was Kurt Cobain's Cause of Death Covered Up?

Author Ian Halperin recently dropped shocking claims about Cobain's cause of death and how the examiner who conducted the autopsy got involved in the "cover-up scandal."

As quoted by RadarOnline.com, Halperin said Dr. Nikolas Hartshorne allegedly bragged about his relationship with Cobain's wife, and it reportedly compromised the autopsy results that led to a "change" in the findings.

The new claims came after Cobain's autopsy report, signed by Dr. Harshorne and Dr. Donald Reay, cited a self-inflicted shotgun wound as the musician's cause of death. They also reportedly detected several substances in his system, including opiates, morphine, diazepam, codeine and benzodiazepines.

The late Nirvana frontman reportedly had needle track marks on his arm at the time of his death.

According to Halperin, the amount of substances in his system would have prevented him from killing himself, but the police had long shrugged off the possibility of Cobain's death as a potential murder case.

With the recent revelations, the author said a new investigation should be started.

Kurt Cobain's Last Moments

Cobain faced near-death experiences several times before ultimately dying from a gunshot wound.

In March 1994, he suffered an overdose in Rome a month before his death. While he was only in a coma after consuming 50 doses of Rohypnol at that time, CNN reported his passing prematurely, according to Far Out Magazine.

He underwent intervention and a detox program after the incident, but he was found dead weeks later.

A 10-page FBI file noted that his fans requested to investigate his death as a possible homicide and not a suicide due to rumors that Love had something to do with the tragic event. When the Seattle Police Department held a reexamination, they reportedly got the same findings and ruled his suicide.

They also disclosed that he left a suicide note.
