For six years, Swift and Alwyn kept a private romance that even their split happened behind the curtains. Sources only learned about their breakup in April 2023, with a separate insider saying they parted ways due to "differences in their personalities."
There might be no bad blood between Swift and Alwyn, but the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer just had a savage move against her ex.
Did Taylor Swift Really Slam Joe Alwyn?
Swift marked her Eras Tour stop in Australia after launching the international leg of her show in Japan. During her latest performance, she sparked rumors that she threw shade at her ex by describing herself as "lonely" person when she introduced her song "Betty."
For what it's worth, the track is one of the songs of her "Folklore" album - the one Alwyn helped to write songs for. The "Stars at Noon" actor also made contributions to her "Evermore" album under the name William Bowery.
According to Swift, they made sad songs together.
"We write the saddest [songs]. We just really love sad songs. What can I say?..It was a surprise that we started writing together," she said. "But in a way, it wasn't because we have always bonded over music and had the same musical tastes."
Swift and Alwyn sparked dating rumors in May 2017 months after their meeting at the 2016 Met Gala.
Following their breakup, Swift was linked to Matty Healy before her romance with Kelce bloomed.
Why Did Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Break Up?
A source told People on April 10, 2023, they broke up after realizing they "weren't the right fit for one another" following the pandemic.
"They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during Reputation," the source continued. "Then, the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn't really 'know' her yet outside of that bubble."
Alwyn also reportedly struggled with the "Lover" singer's fame and attention from the public.
