People on social media have collectively agreed that Kelly Clarkson automatically owns every song that she sings a cover of.

Katy Perry knew what would happen after she watched the American Idol alum crush her rendition of her 2012 megahit "Wide Awake."

Kelly Clarkson Covers Katy Perry's 'Wide Awake' in Kellyoke

As part of her Kellyoke segment on the Emmy-award-winning talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly Clarkson smashed her cover of "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry.

Singing solo with only a pianist on-site, Clarkson gave her own spin on the famous pop ballad. Many of her fans have been looking forward to Clarkson's covers on the Kellyoke segment every week-and that cover was a complete surprise.

As Clarkson's video went viral on social media, many fans showered her with praise and comments.

"Kelly is easily the best thing to have come out of any form of reality television. Nobody comes anywhere near close," a user wrote, referring to her triumphant win on the first season of American Idol.

"This is so moving. Katy wrote and sang this song after her divorce with Russell Brand, showing how she's moved on. Now Kelly is singing it after her divorce, showing how strong she is! My 2 fav female artists!" another commented.

"God she is a powerhouse of a vocalist. So lucky to be alive at the same time as such an amazing talent," one said.

Perry, who seemed attuned to what happens on television and online, gave her honest reaction to Clarkson's amazing performance of her song: "Ok, dang, I can never sing that again."

The humorous comment had fans in stitches, confirming the ongoing social media inside joke that when Kelly Clarkson sings a cover of your song, she automatically owns it already because her take would sound significantly like hers!
