A contentious discussion has emerged regarding the term "nepo baby," with numerous social media users arguing that it's unjust for newcomers to enter a particular industry when others already have greater opportunities due to their familial connections. Lily Allen recently weighed in on the controversy, condemning the label as sexist, given its frequent application to women.

The musician took to her "Miss Me?" podcast to share her opinion about the term "nepo baby," comparing it to the label "Karen." For her, the phrase is used for women "taking up space."

Although the singer, whose parents are actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, has no problem regarding nepotism, the word "baby" doesn't sit well with her.

"I'm called a nepo baby all the time... I actually don't really mind the nepotism thing, it's the 'baby' that annoys me, it's like, I'm 40 years old nearly!" she said.

Speaking to her co-host, Miquita Oliver, Lily Allen remarked that the label is inherently "infantilizing," implying an inability to function independently.

Furthermore, she observed that the term is predominantly applied to women, struggling to recall any instances of it being used for men. She did not need to go far, using herself and her brother as prime examples.

"My brother, for instance, doesn't get called nepo baby, and I do," she added, referring to her actor brother, Alfie Allen.

The "F*** You" songstress continued that over the past decades, whenever she reads something about her, she's always described as the "daughter of Keith Allen," but she doesn't see it happening with men as often as it does with women.

"There's an element of truth to it... I grew up in a certain class bracket, I grew up in and amongst people that worked in media, and I don't think I've ever really disputed that," she added, according to People magazine.

In 2022, she took to X to urge her followers to direct their concerns towards the type of nepotism prevalent in legal firms, banks, and politics, emphasizing its potential real-world ramifications, instead of just focusing on the kids of celebrities.

She doubled down on her opinions, adding a follow-up post in which she warned people that before they come for her for being a nepo baby, she would be the first one to tell the public that she deserved nothing.
