Keith Urban aims to always make his performances extra special for his wife, Nicole Kidman.

Urban and Kidman have been married for nearly two decades after meeting at a gala in 2005. Although things developed between them quickly, they made sure their marriage would last a lifetime.

Speaking in a new interview with People, the "Making Memories of Us" singer revealed he always wants to impress his wife during his shows because it "fires" him up "a bit more."

"I feel like I'm still trying to make my dad proud, and I think my dad was proud years ago. My dad's not even alive anymore and I still feel like I'm trying to get his approval," he continued. "So certain things just stay part of my fire."

Urban previously gushed over meeting Kidman for the first time when he was honored at the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award gala.

According to the "Somebody Like You" singer, he tried to play it cool but eventually snuck into a royal ball because of Kidman's "otherworldly aura." He also called his wife a real-life princess.

"And despite all of that, I did manage to get her phone number on a tiny piece of paper. I was scared. I was nervous to call her," he went on. "I did, as you probably figured out, pluck up the courage to finally call her."

Kidman revealed in a separate interview with People that she knew Urban was the one when he brought her gardenias for her 38th birthday.

A few months after their meeting, Urban popped the question to Kidman and wed at St. Patrick's Estate in the beachside suburb of Manly in Sydney.

During a South by Southwest panel discussion in Austin, Tex., in 2018, Urban disclosed he was not good at relationships before meeting Kidman.

"I would write these songs about love and relationships," he said. "I realized I was writing from all these places of the kind of person I wished I could be. ... The only thing that's changed in my life is I've more so become the person I was trying to be."

But as they enjoy their married life, Urban and Kidman continue to be among the sweetest couples in Hollywood.

The pair marked their latest appearance at the Met Gala on May 6.
