Since news began circulating that FKA Twigs (born Tahliah Barnett) was romantically linked to Robert Pattinson, she has been the target of racist abuse from the Twilight actor's fans. The Mercury Prize-nominated singer, who dropped her debut album LP1 earlier this year, took to Twitter to address the awful messages she's been receiving.

"I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week," she wrote. "Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it's unacceptable online."

FKA Twigs has been spotted hand-in-hand with Pattinson and has been seen spending time with the actor on multiple occasions. Many of the racist comments aimed toward her on Twitter appear to be from fans of either Pattinson or his former co-star and ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

FKA Twigs' label Young Turks (SBTRKT, The xx) showed support for their artist by defending her statements on Twitter as well.

"The racist abuse @FKAtwigs is getting on her social networks is despicable and depressingly archaic," the wrote. "Up to all of us to help educate the abusive parties on how hateful their views are and that social media actually links back to real people. In the meantime we can all report, block, and ban the abusive parties from social networks. Love all at YT."

In the June 2014 issue of Dazed, the "Pendulum" singer said that she has been dealing with racist remarks since her childhood.

"People said horrible things about something I had no control of, which was tough," she told them. "I never really saw anything wrong with how I looked, it was more that certain people pointed things out to you about yourself. Either your hair's different, or the color of your skin, or your features. Half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm funny-looking and ugly. The other half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm fascinating."

On a more positive note, FKA Twigs kicks off her UK tour later this week before going through Europe and heading stateside in November.
