Today marks what would've been Michael Jackson's 55th birthday, and much of the music world reached out to commemorate the event. Below are just a few of the tributes offered by fans and friends the world over:

Naturally, Justin Bieber had to get a word in. The pop star has long respected Jackson as the king of pop, and he doesn't need it to be Jackson's birthday in order to heap praise on his icon.

Rihanna got to meet Jackson before his death in 2009, and a fan shared the image with fans on Twitter.

Beyonce went beyond the standard Twitter B'day wishes. The pop star dedicated a page on her website to Jackson Thursday morning (the image seen above).

Mariah Carey also threw in some goodwill for the deceased pop star.

Although Jackson is the King of Pop, he had plenty of friends in the rock world as well. Queen posted a photo of vocalist Freddie Mercury with Jackson during the '80s.

Entertainment organizations that spend countless words and hours covering the music that Jackson helped pioneer showed their appreciation.

Let's not forget however, that Jackson wasn't the only great performer born on August 29. Jazz legend Charlie Parker would have been 93 today. Jazz at The Lincoln Center paid tribute via a quote from renowned music writer Robert Christgau about the bebop icon.
