Foo Fighters announced that the new single "Something from Nothing" from their upcoming Sonic Highways album will hit the radio and Internet Thursday (Oct. 16).

As Consequence of Sound points out, the song will be out one day before the band's HBO companion series to their album airs.

HBO also released an extended trailer for the series (check it out below) in which the band talks about the creation of their eighth studio effort. "Basically, the process is we come to a city and we spend a week and we start recording an instrumental, because I interview all of these different musicians from that city," Grohl says in the video, via Rolling Stone. "I talk about the regional relevance of the music from that city, the cultural influence, that 'made-for-the-sound' of the music. There's no way that you can tell the history of a city's music in one hour, so we have to do it in a way that relates to the band and goes from point A to point B and becomes a song."

"Mostly we wanted to pick cities that meant something to us, so there's Seattle, where Dave made the first Foo Fighters record plus his history with Nirvana," guitarist Pat Smear adds.

The eight-episode series will coincide with the release of the album on Nov. 10. The band will also celebrate the premiere of their series with a weeklong residency on Late Show with David Letterman this week. Each night will feature covers inspired by Sonic Highways performed with a different guest. Dave Grohl will sit down with Letterman tomorrow night (Oct. 13) to kick things off.
