Saturday Night Live has been pulling from a variety of genres and levels of fame for its 40th season, and on the upcoming Nov. 15 episode, one of rap's biggest stars is aiming to be the next musical guest. During the Nov. 1 episode of the show, SNL confirmed that "i" rapper Kendrick Lamar will be performing on the NBC sketch comedy show.

A show preview during the Chris Rock and Prince episode of Saturday Night Live confirmed that Lamar will be the show's sixth musical guest in two weeks alongside host Woody Harrelson.

The program later confirmed the pairing on its official Twitter account.

Lamar follows Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Hozier, Iggy Azalea and Prince during the lineup for the show's landmark 40th season.

Lamar's forthcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live follows the release of his intense yet optimistic new single "i," which was released in September.

The performance also will precede the release of Lamar's sophomore album. Details surrounding the follow up to 2012's good kid, m.A.A.d. city is anticipated in the forthcoming months, though concrete details have yet to be announced.
