Perhaps Chris Martin has more of a funny bone than previously thought. The Coldplay frontman has always exuded a melancholy demeanor with a few silly moments now and then. But he decided to go into a standup routine at the BBC Music Awards last week when discussing the song he wrote for Angelina Jolie's Unbroken film.

""I got a message [from Jolie] that said, 'Meet in this undisclosed location," Martin said (via NME). "You'll be blindfolded and picked up by seven ex-Navy SEALs.'"

He was embellishing the story for humor's sake (we think).

"So they kidnapped me, hit me over the head, and sprayed me with Mace," he said. "When I woke up, I was in an office, and Brad Pitt was doing push-ups as Angelina Jolie was just sitting there with her crown on. There was also a guy holding a knife to my throat, and she said, 'Write me a song, or else'. And Brad Pitt said, 'Yeah. What she said'."

Martin was full of the funnies that night, and decided to poke at himself when discussing the great David Bowie, who was nominated for British Artist of the Year.

"One time I sent him a song to ask him to sing on it," Martin said. "He called me and said, 'It's not one of your best.' He's got very high standards and I appreciate that. It inspires the rest of us to keep our standards high."

Martin already has a Golden Globe nomination of his own for that Unbroken song -- "Miracles" — and is on the short list for an Oscar nomination as well.

Unfortunately for many, Martin also recently announced that Coldplay's next record will be their last. Perhaps this new humorous side of the artist formerly known as Mr. Gwyneth is simply a nervous breakdown?
