Stevie Nicks covers the latest issue of Rolling Stone, and the Fleetwood Mac singer opened up about her impressive career in a lengthy profile. Nicks talked about her cocaine habit and her tumultuous relationship with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. The band is currently on a reunion tour with its original lineup.

Despite the fact that Nicks is a huge fan of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and would leave Fleetwood Mac to join that band if the opportunity arose, she loves her iconic group.

"We choose to stay," she said about her Mac bandmates. "Because we can't do anything else. None of us are ever going to stand up and say, 'I'm going to make my own choice for the first time in my life, and I'm going away, and I don't know if I'm coming back."

Nicks also revealed that her drug habit back in the day was a big problem.

"All of us were drug addicts," she said. "But there was a point where I was the worst drug addict. ... I was a girl, I was fragile and I was doing a lot of coke. And I had that hole in my nose. So it was dangerous."

Petty, who collaborated on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Nicks, agreed that the problem became severe.

"I did all I could to talk her into getting some help and getting right," Petty added. "I was very worried about her. To the point that if the phone did ring and they said, 'Stevie died,' I wouldn't have been surprised."

Nicks also discussed her relationship with Buckingham, which is as antagonistic today as the day they met.

"Relations with Lindsey are exactly as they have been since we broke up," she said. "He and I will always be antagonizing to each other, and we will always do things that will irritate each other, and we really know how to push each other's buttons."
