Green Day have announced that they will be taking a break after the upcoming Australian tour in February and March of next year. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong spoke to Jo Whiley earlier this week on her BBC Radio 2 show and shared about the decision.

He said: "We're going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we're going to take a break. We haven't really been doing much. So it's just nice to kind of do some other things, y'know, when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged."

Armstrong has recently been busy working on and promoting his Everly Brothers tribute album Foreverly with Norah Jones, which was just released on Nov. 25. The album, recorded in just nine days at Manhattan's Magic Shop, pays homage to the 1958 LP Songs Our Daddy Taught Us.

In a recent interview with Stereogum, Armstrong described the project and collaboration. "I thought it would be cool to remake the record because I thought it was sort of an obscure thing and more people should know about it, but I really wanted to do it with a woman singing because I thought it would take on a different meaning - maybe broaden the meaning a little bit - as compared to hearing the songs being sung by the two brothers."

Both Armstrong and Jones say they aren't sure if they will take Foreverly on the road because of their busy schedules. But maybe Armstrong will have time now that he's taking a break from Green Day after March. We'll see.
