Scott Weiland wants to make one thing clear: He has no connection to the rock supergroup Art of Anarchy besides spending a day or two in the studio during 2014.

"I was never in the band," Weiland told Billboard at the Sundance Film Festival. "It was something I did when I wasn't doing anything. I was asked to write some lyrics and sing some melodies on this project, but it's not a band I'm in. This is my band," he added, nodding to Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts.

The mercurial former Stone Temple Pilots singer appears to have found a sweet spot with his new group.

"It helps when you're friends and we had the same idea of what sound we wanted to go for," he said. "I've been playing with these guys for nine years."

His work with Art of Anarchy was well publicized in a press release earlier this week that stated he was the "lead singer" of a collective that includes John Moyer, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Jon Votta and Vince Votta, but he subtly tried to distance himself from the project with a Facebook post.

"I just saw some press about a side project called Art of Anarchy that I worked on last year," Weiland wrote. "I wrote and put my vocals down for these guys and had fun doing a couple of videos too; we had a lot of fun. When they find their front man to hit the road and play some dates, check them out."

Meanwhile, his old STP mates have moved on. Weiland was officially dumped in 2013, and his old buddies ultimately replaced him with Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington.
