Kid Cudi made another big step in his acting career with the new role he played in the film James White, which was premiered during the second day of the Sundance Festival. His role during the film was different from what Scott Mescudi has done in the past, starring as the gay best friend of the protagonist, James White, who is played by Christopher Abbot (Girls). Playing that role, Kid Cudi had some scenes which forced him to broaden his horizons, including kissing a male friend played by David Call. The scenes were cut from the film and Cudi only found that out when he saw the premiere.

He discussed the scene and it being cut out on the red carpet with Billboard.

"I'm mad [Mond] cut out my kissing scenes with David," Cudi said with a wry smile during an audience Q&A session after the film. "We made out so many times -- and it was so good! That's my only gripe."

Cudi added that he had no problem playing the character that was not obviously gay and acting in those scenes.

"No. My thing is what story are we trying to tell here," Cudi said. "I didn't flinch. I'm secure with mine. I'm an artist -- it's all about playing characters that are intriguing and stimulating."

Cudi has become more involved with acting in recent years. He played a leading role in the now canceled HBO television show How To Make It In America and starred alongside Aaron Paul in the film Need For Speed.

This is a risky move for Cudi given hip-hop's history of homophobia. It has opened up recently, notably since President Obama made the statement that he was for gay marriage and Frank Ocean came out as bisexual, but a lot of prejudice exists within the culture.

Outside of acting, Cudi recently announced that he was getting the band back together to record Man On The Moon 3. Cudi is doing a lot of exciting things at the moment.
