There are a few things we know about James Dolan: He is rich, he likes to rent out entire venues so he can play guitar and he has run the New York Knicks into the ground. The owner has sent an insane email to a fan, telling him to "start rooting for the New York Nets."

Since taking a more hands-on approach with the team at the turn of the millennium, Dolan has effectively turned the Knickerbockers from perennial playoff contenders to an afterthought. Their current record of 10-41 is the worst in the NBA.

This week, a Knicks fan who has been following the team for more than 60 years sent Dolan a scathing email. Here is an excerpt, via Deadspin and ESPN:

I am utterly embarased by your dealings with the Knicks. Sell them so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction Obviously, money IS NOT THE ONLY THING. You have done a lot of utterly STUPID business things with the franchise. Please NO MORE. Respectfully, Irving Bierman.

Dolan promptly fired back with vitriol:

"Why would anybody write such a hateful letter. I am.just guessing but ill bet your life is a mess and you are a hateful mess," Dolan wrote. "What have you done that anyone would consider positive or nice. I am betting nothing. In fact ill bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a person that folks would like to have around. In the mean while start rooting for the Nets because the Knicks dont want you. Respectfully James Dolan.

The Nets? Oh, lawd.

Bierman told ESPN he would "never" root for the Brooklyn team, and the emails have gone viral thanks to Bierman's son, Aaron, who brought them to the rest of the Internet.
