"Everything Is Awesome," indeed. In an Oscars night filled with glamour and length acceptance speeches, The Lonely Island and Tegan and Sara were on hand to shake things up with stuffed animals, LEGO Oscar statues and even a cameo from Batman Will Arnett with its Best Original Song nominated track from The LEGO Movie.
After a chorus introduction from a team of animated LEGO, Tegan and Sara, dresses in complimentary black leather pantsuits, began to bring the house down with an energetic performance of "Everything Is Awesome."
But, things really kicked into gear when Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shafer (a.k.a. The Lonely Island) arrived to start rapping in light blue tuxedos. From there, the performance was kicked into energetic overdrive with a stuffed dancing "awesome possum," new pants, allergens, boomboxes, a surprise appearance from DEVO and QuestLove and, well, everything else.
Oh, and everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Channing Tatum to Steve Carrell won a LEGO Oscar, even if they don't end up winning later in the night.
And, duh, of course it was awesome. The LEGO Movie doesn't even need to be nominated for Best Animated Film to be the buzz of the night.
