Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson is releasing his new album, No Pier Pressure, on April 7. The effort was originally going to feature contributions from Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey, however, they were both missing from the album's tracklist when it came time for the official announcement. According to Pitchfork, a representative for Wilson blamed it on a scheduling conflict; however, Wilson himself has opened up about the situation in detail in a new interview with Vulture.

He attributed Ocean's absence on the album to creative differences. "Well, Frank Ocean didn't want to do the song," he said. "He wanted to do rap, so we canceled him."

Del Rey, on the other hand, just decided not to do it. "Lana Del Rey, uh, she just canceled out on us," he explained.

Although we won't be hearing any collaborations from Del Rey or Ocean, a handful of other artists contributed to the record, including Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, Kacey Musgraves, and members of the Beach Boys.

Elsewhere in the interview, he revealed that he's never listened to Kanye West's music and talked about his upcoming biopic Love & Mercy as well as retirement plans, his thoughts on the "Blurred Lines" case, wanting his kids to think he's cool, loving oldies-but-goodies, and more.

Wilson will embark on a North American tour in June in support of the album.
