Taking selfies the old fashion way may be a safer bet at this year's Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals. Both mega festivals have banned the use of selfie sticks.

This year's Coachella festival spans over April 10-12 and April 17-19 in California, while Chicago's Lollapalooza will take place July 31- Aug 2. According to Billboard, both festivals list selfie sticks as "prohibited items."

In the FAQS section of Lollapalooza's homepage, selfie sticks falls under the "Allowed & Prohibited Items" section under the sub-section for items that are not allowed. It reads: "GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks & mono pods."

Coachella's festival regulations take it a step further to declare that the venue not only wants to rid the use of selfie sticks--"narcissists" are not welcome either. Under the "Rules & Policies" section of the site, it clearly states "No selfie sticks/narcissists".

Gone are the days of relying on strangers to take a photo. Now with selfie sticks, people are finding it a lot easier to capture themselves in different moments.

According to the NY post, the selfie stick got its start in Asia. The simple long stick design that holds onto a cell phone has continued to gain popularity in the U.S.

Selfie on A Stick, a company that sells selfie sticks, has seen drastic sales and has even sold out of their Nordsrtom stock multiple times, according to the NYpost.

"We thought that it would just be a great addition to the American market," Jacqueline Verdier, co-owner of Selfie on a Stick, told the NYpost. "It's funny to put your phone on the end of a stick, but at the end of the day we have a great pictures."

Great pictures or not, selfie sticks remain unwanted and banned at this year's Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals this spring and summer.
