J. Cole's latest album 2014 Forest Hills Drive has gone platinum. The big news comes after the rapper signed as an owner of TIDAL.

As noted by Vibe, the feature-less project, which dropped in December, boasts over 1,000,000 copies, including streaming tallies. His previous albums, Cole World: The Sideline Story and Born Sinner, pushed 735,000 and 720,000 units respectively.

Music Times previously reported 2014 Forest Hills Drive went gold in its second week, moving 371,000 copies and earning him the No. 1 spot on the charts. This was all done with little promotion before the album and no singles released beforehand.

The album was met with mostly positive reviews. The LA Times gave 2014 Forest Hills Drive 3 stars out of 4, noting its authenticity.

That insistence on authenticity is a familiar pose in hip-hop, which often measures success not by how far an artist travels but by how little that travel changes him. For Cole, though, the street isn't just a source of (borrowed) credibility; it's where this storyteller goes to absorb details that for others might merely be glimpsed on a screen.

Earlier this week, Jay Z announced the launch of TIDAL with his 18 artist partners, including Cole. The "Fire Squad" rapper inked his name on the dotted line as one of the owners of Hov's new streaming service.

Madonna, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Usher, deadmau5, Jason Aldean, Jack White, Daft Punk, Beyoncé, Arcade Fire's Win Butler, Alicia Keys, Coldplay and Calvin Harris have also signed on.

Congratulations to J. Cole!
