Tyga became the latest rapper to drop an album by surprise, but we have to wonder if The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty is meant to remind people that he's an emcee...and not just Kylie Jenner's boyfriend. The drop came on June 23 and the album can currently be heard on Spotify exclusively.

The most notable thing about the album is its lack of guest spots. After all, Tyga was a member of the Young Money roster and those guys have a tendency to show up on each other's tracks. Not so in this case, as only there are only three guest spots on The Gold Album (from Lil Wayne, Lil Boosie and A.E., respectively). After all, Tyga was having issues with labelmates Nicki Minaj and Drake before jumping ship.

Like Weezy, Tyga had been having troubles of his own with Young Money's Cash Money leadership, as the emcee complained management was holding his record "hostage." The rapper would end up buying his way out of his Cash Money commitment to release the album on his own Last Kings label.

If you're still remembering Hotel California, Tyga's badly titled (and badly everything else'd) last album, consider that Kanye West had a hand in executive producing this new set. Give it a listen and let us know what you think.

"This is my best work I've done. I love this album!" he wrote on Twitter upon releasing the album to Spotify. Thank you to Kanye west and his team mike dean, Virgil for bringing this album to life and putting that dopeness to it! Thank you to everyone who kept hating on me and not believing in me. This album is for yall. F*ck Yall!"
