New York Fashion Week may seem like its all about the designers and the big name supermodels, but Katy Perry is out there thinking about the little people. On Wednesday night (Sept. 16), the "Dark Horse" singer performed at an exclusive NYFW event and gave a shout-out to all those assistants out there before launching in to her biggest hit to date, "Firework." She was also on hand to debut a new style.

Perry, who noted that she now feels like "an outcast or a black sheep because I'm no longer [a] sample size," then went out to sing to all the other fashion outcasts during her 30-minute set at the Plaza Hotel during an event honoring women in fashion, Page Six reports.

But Perry wasn't just there to celebrate the big name women in fashion. She had some very special words for those just getting their grips on the industry.

"This next song is a song I want you to remember when you're going about your day and you rip your pants, you have two Band-Aids fall off of the back of your heel, you're sweating, there's coffee all over your blouse. I'm talking about all the assistants here. And you feel, maybe, like a little plastic bag," she said, introducing "Firework." "We're all human. We all start somewhere."

During her truncated setlist, Perry zoomed through all of her biggest hits, including "Roar," "I Kissed a Girl," "Dark Horse" and "Teenage Dream."

Perry's performance wasn't the only thing that got people talking during her time at New York Fashion Week. She also shocked people by showing up with a new auburn hairdo, which meshed perfectly with her black and gold gown.
