With Ed Sheeran recently revealing that he's taking a break from the music scene in order to give back to charity and enjoy time to himself, it seems his schedule is as packed as ever. From guest starring in Kurt Sutter's The Bastard Executioner  to launching his own label called Gingerbread Man Records and performing "Drunk in Love" alongside Beyonce at New York City's Global Citizen Festival, Sheeran can now add receiving an honorary doctorate degree from the University Campus Suffolk to his long list of accomplishments.

The 24-year-old singer can now be referred to Dr. Ed Sheeran after accepting an honorary degree for his "outstanding contribution to music" from the Ispwich, England University on Monday. The X singer grew up right around the corner in Framlingham in Suffolk Country and showed up at the university in order to accept his degree in person.

"Suffolk is very much where I call home," he explained to reporters, People notes. "Receiving this recognition is a real privilege." The "Thinking Out Loud" musician showed up to the exciting event adorned in a dark cap and gown but decided to Sheerify his look by rocking a pair of converse and rolled up sleeves which showed off his tattoos.

"I've had an amazing year ... and this makes it even better," he said according to People. Sheeran also took to Instagram to write of his degree, "I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran."

The crooner exited schooling at the age of 16 in order to pursue a career in music. In an interview with the Press Association at the University, Sheeran detailed his opinions on higher education. "I think we should encourage young kids to not feel as much pressure," he explained. "I think if you don't know what you want to do, hold off for a couple years, go travel and find yourself."

"I know that's a weird thing to say [when] I'm coming to receive a doctorate, but I think there's a lot of pressure on kids to go to university, and then a lot of them end up in debt with a degree that they didn't really need to get the job they want," he added.
