Reclusive Los Angeles-based producer, ZHU has unveiled the final chapter in his Genesis Series that has included collaborations with the likes of AlunaGeorge, Gallant, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Now he has unveiled possibly the most anticipated collaboration of them all, "Working For It" with Skrillex and new Mind Of A Genius signee THEY.
As premiered by Zane Lowe as the hottest record in the world on Beats 1 this afternoon, "Working For It" has a bit of everything from these artists, continuing the trend of ultimate collaborations that have been found on the Genesis Series.
ZHU eases the listener into the track with wobbling synth chords, heavily reverbed guitar plucks and his falsettos. This then drops off into the drop, clearly crafted by Skrillex with his deep, growing bass and chugging bass lines, aided by the vocals of duo THEY that blend the line between hip-hop and r&b. A flute sound is back in a Skrillex production after becoming so famous in "Where Are Ü Now."
There was a time when some corners of the internet believed that Skrillex as ZHU. That rumor was quickly quashed by intelligence and reason, but it does add another level of intrigue to this collab between one of the biggest DJs in the world and a clear rising star in the dance music space.
"Working For It" will be released tomorrow, Oct. 23, but for now can be streamed below. It is the last part of ZHU's Genesis Series that contained six different collaborations, including "Automatic" with AlunaGeorge, "Hold Up Wait A Minute" with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Trombone Shorty and more.
