Yesterday morning (Oct. 27) Gwen Stefani finally opened up, talking about her divorce from Gavin Rossdale with Matt Lauer on The Today Show.
"Your personal life has been in the headlines," Lauer prodded Stefani, "Are fans misinterpreting something here or is it right there in front of us in terms of the meaning of the song?" He said when he referred to her new song "Used To Love You," that was first performed at an uber-exclusive event for select MasterCard holders this month (Oct. 17) and soon followed up with an emotionally-charged music video.
Her Voice co-hosts Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams were also featured on the show to answer some probing questions. Shelton was also asked about his split from fellow country singer Miranda Lambert this past summer.
"What I'll say about that is that I've never put a record out where I'm actually going through things in real time," Stefani said, as reported by Refinery 29. She also said that that the emotions in her preceding albums took a few years to process and produce.
She further explained to Lauer, "I wrote that song like a couple weeks ago, and then I sat in front of a camera in a dressing room randomly not making a video, just to do some video for the screens behind me, and it went out and it's the video and it's like all very real," and then joked with the host about just how much he put her on the spot.
The track is being shopped around in the media and the singer performed "Used To Love You" on Ellen over the weekend.
According to TMZ Stefani and Rossdale have also finally reached an agreement on their divorce terms, which included both the separation of property and actual physical custody of their children. The former couple will share 9-year-old Kingston, 6-year-old Zuma and 19-month-old Apollo in a joint custody agreement. Rossdale also reportedly agreed to a lesser amount of the property that he was entitled to under California law in order to settle the matter expediently.
