Alien: Covenant, previously Alien: Paradise Lost and also referred to as Prometheus 2, has found its new female lead in actress Katherine Waterston. Known for her recent performances in Inherent Vice and Steve Jobs, as well as her upcoming role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Waterston is set to join a franchise known for its powerful leading ladies, including Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron from 2012's Prometheus and, of course, Sigourney Weaver from the Alien movies. Filmmaker Ridley Scott returns as writer, director and producer with Prometheus star Michael Fassbender also returning to reprise his role as David.

Waterston's character has not been revealed, but she is confirmed as the lead (via Gamma Squad / IGN). What we can all gather from the details revealed about this new project is that Rapace's Dr. Elizabeth Shaw might not show up in the sequel, despite the ending of the movie.

Check out our previous coverage of some Alien: Covenant plot details and the title change, including a synopsis of the film, which you can read, right here:

Now we can throw Waterston's character into the mix for a complete synopsis!

Prometheus received some mixed reviews, but the idea of continuing and adding to the Alien lore is too exciting for moviegoers to fault Scott on his 2012 prequel. Including Alien in the title for this new project is certainly a good decision from the director, but we'll have to wait until its October 2017 release date to really see how the story comes together.
