Because of his on-off involvement with Kylie JennerTyga is generally associated with the Keeping Up With the Kardashians clan these days.

But in a new interview, he didn't even mention the Kardashians, talking instead about freedom, the trappings of being famous and his own claim to fame, his 2012 song "Rack City."

"It's a gift and a curse," the rapper told Yahoo! Music. "You can never really get used to people chasing you all day, but whether you're an actor, a rapper or an athlete, that's the life you chose. You sacrifice your freedom."

He spoke about his beginnings as a 12-year-old recording in his bedroom, and the future of his career. But, just like Kylie's famous family, Tyga designs his own clothes and has his own line, Compton MC/Last Kings line.

"Everything that I've done to this point doesn't even matter," Tyga said. "When I hear 'Rack City,' it doesn't even matter. I'm only doing this to sit with the gods. There's no other way I see it for myself."

Tyga was mentored by Lil Wayne, who added the rapper to his Young Money label in 2007, alongside Drake and Nicki Minaj. Being signed wasn't the break he had been hoping for, but he did release The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty in June.

"Even though so many people are doing music, I still feel like what I do is not comparable," he told Yahoo. "It can't be duplicated. When you start looking at all the other people, that's you losing faith in what you're supposed to do."

There have been rumors of a split with Kylie Jenner, starting in November when Jenner was absent from Tyga's 26th birthday at The Nice Guy in West Hollywood; she also stayed quiet on social media. An insider said the two were on a "break," but Jenner said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the two were just "hanging out."
