Saint West, a Canadian rapper, has retired because the artist name he has used throughout the duration of his career is no longer his own. Shortly after the birth of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's baby, the Vancouver based rapper announced that he would be retiring from the music industry. Kardashian and West announced the name of their baby in early December (Dec. 5). Since Saint West was relatively unknown, it is unclear just how successful he was in the industry before retiring.

"Hi, I'm Lindon, also known as Saint West. I'd like to announce my official retirement from hip-hop," West said in a clip posted by celebrity gossip site TMZ, NME reports.

He further said, "Congratulations Kanye and Kim, thank you for choosing such a beautiful name. Saint West, may God smile on you. I'll always be cheering for you. And try to avoid becoming a rapper."

NME reported that West and Kardashian's daughter, North West, arrived in 2013 and when talking about names for their second child the reality star said, "I don't like South West... North will always, you know, be better and be more... she has a better direction."

The duo made headlines when West did an impromptu audition for American Idol and surprised the judges this past Tuesday (Dec. 22). Shortly after his surprise audition, his wife revealed a short clip on her twitter account and it is reported that his full performance will be broadcasted sometime in January.

In the video, West began his audition by saying, "My name is Kanye. I'm from the south side of Chicago. I'm originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and no one really believed in me, so I wanted to try some things out, ya know?"

It was reported that West performed an a capella audition of his break-out hit, "Gold Digger," but fans will have to wait until January to see if he makes the next round.
