All indications suggest that when the numbers become official tomorrow morning, Justin Timberlake will be at no. 1 on the pop charts with his single "Not A Bad Thing," which moves up from the no. 2 spot. The song's arrival at the top spot marks the seventh time the performer has reached that peak, breaking a tie he had with Bruno Mars for the most no. 1's by a male solo act.

Timberlake has led a "comeback" of sorts over the last year as he had trailed Mars six songs to five as of May 2013. Mars had set the mark during April of 2013 with "When I Was Your Man" before Timberlake's "Mirrors" equalled the score. "Not A Bad Thing" leaves Timberlake with sole position of the record.

"Mirrors" was somewhat of a reintroduction to the top spot for Timberlake, who had previously gone more than five years without a no. 1 track. The performer got his first solo no. 1 with "Rock Your Body" during 2003, and then four of the tracks off of FutureSex/LoveSounds hit the peak of popularity between 2006-'07: "SexyBack," "My Love," "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and "Summer Love." "SexyBack" had the longest run at no. 1 among Timberlake's tracks, lasting five weeks.

Timberlake is still a long way from the top of the solo performer list however, as a number of female performers have dominated the chart in recent years. Timberlake is now tied with Lady Gaga, while P!nk has nine appearances, and Katy Perry and Rihanna both have 11 no. 1 hits. Timberlake would be be a bit closer if we counted his two 'NSync's no. 1's.

Timberlake should try to throw together an eighth hit single to play it safe, before Mars can get back to the studio.
