Zayn Malik is riding high off the release of his debut solo single and new music video "Pillowtalk," and now the former One Direction singer is finally opening up about the track, its NSFW music video and his relationship with Gigi Hadid.

On Wednesday (Feb. 3), Zayn stopped by Zach Sang and the Gang and revealed his creative writing process (hint: it contains a lot of notes on his cell phone). Though Zayn wanted to remain ambiguous on the exact meaning behind "Pillowtalk" and its music video, he did reveal that he wrote it from personal experience and that he was heavily involved with the dreamy visuals.

"Mostly my idea. I wanted it to be representational of the art that I'm looking at at the minute, even just a perspective level. On the surface of it, I wanted it be arty, and different and out-there. That was the whole feel for the video. We wanted a dream-feel to it and represent that. There are deeper meanings to things as well. I don't want to put labels on things. I want people to figure it out themselves," he said about the clip.

And speaking of the "Pillowtalk" video, Zayn also finally admitted that Hadid, who had previously just called a "friend" was his official girlfriend when drilled by the radio show hosts."

"Yeah, that was cool," Zayn said about working with his girlfriend on the "Pillowtalk" video. "It was something different. We enjoyed it; it was fun. We had a lot of fun on set."

Though Zayn is heavily focused on his burgeoning solo career, his One Direction past recently came into play with the release of the boy band's "History" video, which featured plenty of memories from his time in the group. Zayn admitted that he saw, and enjoyed, the video.

"That was cool. I liked that fact that they were nostalgic, shall we say, about the memories we shared together. It was a positive thing to watch. I enjoyed it. It was nice to look back at those memories that we shared together. It was cool," he said.

Though Zayn doesn't seem to harbor any ill will toward his former bandmates, he is releasing his debut album Mind of Mine on March 25, the exact anniversary of when he left One Direction. Zayn denied this was purposeful, and instead called it a "sign."

"I don't know, is that how it works out? It's March 25, it wasn't planned that way. It works that way. It just seems to coincide with the iTunes launch and everything. Maybe it's a sign."
