After releasing his "Came Here to Forget" new single last week, Blake Shelton kicked off a hosting gig during the Nickelodeon's 2016 Kids' Choice Awards, opening the event with a Star Wars theme. Shelton was joined by Selena Gomez and last year's host, Nick Jonas.

According to Idolator, before Shelton went to the stage, he was surprised with the appearance of Gomez. The "God Gave Me You" singer asked Gomez if he could join her squad but Gomez said no, ending up with Shelton battling with Star Wars stormtroopers which was interrupted by Nick Jonas who shouted, "keep it down." The host then asked Jonas, "Does the Force have to awaken everybody?"

Aside from the two stars, his fellow The Voice coaches, Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams, also visited him with Pharrell offering him his Sponge Bob socks.

The country singer was in high energy and kept the laughter all throughout the show. He even came out dressed in a unicorn costume saying, "Recently, I became a victim of throwback Thursday. But, I'm not the only one," Variety reported.

After showing a photo of himself when he was still a kid, childhood photos of other stars were flashed on the screen like Meghan Trainor with a cat, Buddy Valastro in front of a cake and John Stamos donning rock star hair.

For this year's show, the audience was given control by allowing them to vote on the design of the stage and the winners. They were also given the power to choose who would get slimed in a slime face-off: Cameron Dallas or Bethany Mota. Dallas ended up "winning" that battle and took her sliming like a champ.

Of course, Shelton also got his share of the slime as well as the audience members who were near the stage.

Before the event, a source revealed to Us Weekly that it was Shelton's idea to host the gig saying: "He thought it would be a really fun thing and they'd never had anyone like Blake do it, so his team suggested it. He's pretty excited about it, but Gwen's kids are REALLY excited. They adore Blake and are obsessed with the fact he's hosting the Kids' Choice Awards and that he's going to be in the Angry Birds movie/do the theme song. They think he's so cool!"

Meanwhile, Shelton's girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, was in Japan and wasn't present during the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday. The No Doubt singer expressed her disappointment for missing the show but she later shared that she watched Shelton's hosting through Facetime.
