It seems safe to say that not only is Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine sitting comfortably on top of the world because of the success of both NBC's The Voice AND Maroon 5, but also because he holds a secret that so many people are dying to know ... the origin story of Maroon 5's name. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he's willing to give that up anytime soon.

Levine made a stop on The Late Show with David Letterman last night, and even to the legendary comedian himself, he refused to unveil where the band got its name. He does insist, however, that the entire group knows the root of the name and admits it was he who tossed out the idea to not tell anybody.

The singer then went on to give Letterman "some truth" as to where the name came from.

"It's such a horrendous story," Levine tells the host, "that we decided that shrouding it in mystery will make it a better story than the actual story, and it works!" The comment was followed by applause. But, we're assuming it was largely due to the "Applause" sign, because honestly, who doesn't want to know?

Levine went on to clarify, "It wasn't a bad thing that took place, it was more like it's such an uneventful, boring, stupid story that makes me feel bad about myself." Given his belly-chuckle, Letterman appeared to enjoy that one, telling Levine, "You've come to the right place."
