Rihanna has confirmed that she will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. This means she will be joining the prestigious award's list of recipients including Kanye West, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys.

Through a recent tweet, the "Work" singer noted that she was honored after she heard the news that she will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which was formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rihanna has been chosen by MTV as this year's recipient of the award due to her music videos' stunning quality. Some of these include the crime drama-themed short film for the track "B*tch Better Have My Money" and the cinematography for the
"We Found Love" video.

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award will be given to Rihanna on Aug. 28, during the MTV Video Music Awards. It will be held at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

But aside from the prestigious award, the singer also earned various nominations and recognitions in the upcoming event. According to Billboard, Rihanna has been nominated for Best Female Video for "Work," which features Drake. She also received two nominations in the Best Collaboration category for "Work" and for her contribution in Calvin Harris' "This is What You Came For."

Recently, it was reported that Rihanna has been asked to join the cast of the upcoming film Ocean's Eight, a spinoff of the 2001 heist film Ocean's Eleven starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

The other actresses linked to star in the movie include Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway and Awkwafina, the hip-hop moniker for Nora Lum, Deadline reported.
