Britney Spears has finally settled a 2008 lawsuit with her former self-appointed manager Sam Lufti. 2008 was a tough year for Spears, during which the “Make Me” singer suffered a complete mental breakdown in the public eye.

According to TMZ, Spears and her team, including her father who serves as a conservator, filed a notice with the Los Angeles Superior Court this past Friday (Sept. 2) that announced the settlement with Lufti. Thus far, there are no details provided on the settlement in the filing.

The site reports that Spears and her team paid Lufti off “in the low 6 figures” but the amount paid was far less than the $500,000 she would have paid in legal fees to defend herself against the lawsuit.

Back in 2009, Lufti sued both Spears and her parents for events that occurred in 2008. In the original suit her former manager claimed that her father Jamie struck him in the face. He asserted that Spears and her team were out of line because of her drug abuse, which he was attempting to help the pop star with. Lufti also said that a memoir written by her mother Lynne contained libel about him.

Lufti’s case against Spears was dismissed in 2012, but a trial had been scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in October before the case was settled.

In other Spears news, Lifetime TV announced a new biopic on the singer starring Natasha Bassett, who has acted in Hail, Cesar in the past. The network is describing the made for TV movie as the “tumultuous true story” of the pop star’s rise to fame, her public meltdown and comeback.

Asylum Entertainment will be producing the move, which is the company behind The Kennedys and Ring of Fire. Executive producers on the project include Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and Joan Harrison. Entitled Britney, the film will see a 2017 premiere and production is slated to begin on September 19.

Spears team recently released a statement that read, “Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic nor does it have her blessing.”
