Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles, has just been knighted by Prince William. He is the second member of the group to receive the prestigious recognition.

On Tuesday, Starr was joined by his wife, Barbara Bach, at the Buckingham Palace in London. Prince William appointed Starr as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The drummer first learned that he will be recognized for his contributions in music in December after the Kensington Palace released its New Year's honors list.

"It's an honor and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love," said Starr last year.

Initially, Queen Elizabeth II was supposed to knight Starr and the other recipients on Tuesday, but she entrusted her grandson with the task.

Ringo Starr Meets Paul McCartney

After accepting his medal, Starr joked that he will wear it during breakfast. When asked if he will now be officially called Sir Ringo Starr, the drummer said that he has yet to make a decision.

His bandmate, Paul McCartney, is now referred to as Sir Paul McCartney after he was knighted by the queen in 1997.

"I had dinner with him last week and we were both actually laughing about where we came from, and we've ended up in the palace and it's now Sir Paul and Sir Richard," said Starr.

Other members of The Beatles, George Harrison, and John Lennon did not receive the same recognition because they passed away in 2001 and 1980, respectively.

The other guests that were recognized at Tuesday's gathering are Robert Patterson, Sam Warburton, Jilly Cooper, Anne Shaw, and Michael Morpurgo.

Ringo Starr To Perform In Tel Aviv

In related news, Starr also made headlines after it was announced that he will be playing in Tel Aviv this summer. He will be taking the stage at the Menora Mivtachim arena on June 23 and will be joined by his All-Starr Band.

Starr and his band will also embark on a 21-date European tour to promote his latest album Give More Love. The compilation was released in September.

"The dream is still unfolding. I love to play, and I love to play with this band. I can't say that enough, and we're on the road again," said Starr last year.

Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, is a musician from Dingle, Liverpool, United Kingdom. Even though he is the drummer of Beatles, he once lent his voice to sing as the lead for "With a Little Help from My Friends."
