There is nothing but love between Taylor Swift and Hayley Kiyoko despite the backlash the latter received from Swifties last week.

Women Supporting Women

The "Curious" singer, who is currently promoting her latest album Expectations, commended Swift for continuing to write about her personal experiences despite criticism. On Twitter on Sunday, April 1, Kiyoko send a sweet response to the "Delicate" singer.

"[Love] and respect to [Taylor Swift] and all the brave artists out there sharing their truths with the world," Kiyoko stated on her social media page. "I would appreciate you. We keep climbing."

The comment came after the young singer-songwriter had received hate for an interview where she recalled an experience she had with some music executives. Kiyoko, an openly gay artist, said that she was called out for making "another music video" about girls.

As a response, she pointed out that Swift also sings about her previous romances, but does not get the same criticism.

Some Swifties did not take the comment lightly and bashed Kiyoko. However, the "End Game" singer immediately put a stop on the issue by praising Kiyoko for sharing her own experiences.

Swift's response to the issue does not come as a surprise to her fans. While she has some high-profile feud with Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian West, the 28-year-old singer has proclaimed herself a feminist who only wants to lift women up.

She once pointed out that the criticism around the fact that she writes about her ex-boyfriends is sexist. It's because neither Ed Sheeran nor Bruno Mars, who also sings about their previous romances respectively, get the same kind of disapproval.

Changing The Game

Kiyoko's courage to continue being true to herself despite the eventual criticism is proven to be a success. Expectations, which was released last week, received glowing reviews from music critics and fans alike. The song "Curious," the seventh track from the album, entered Billboard's Mainstream Top 40.

In a new interview, the singer talked about the state of pop music and becoming "Lesbian Jesus."

"Going into this industry, I didn't want labels. I didn't want some of the headlines that I get," the 26-year-old told Fast Company.

Getting the moniker, which was assigned to her by fans, was not part of the plan but now, she sees how important it is for her to claim the title.

"Then there was a turning point because I was like, damn, I can't be neutral because there is no one stepping up and leading the pack and being that person. There's no one who is being extremely bold with this and helping change these labels. I was like, I have to be that person because I'm in a position that I can do that."

Kiyoko will be performing at Coachella on April 15 and April 22.
