Britney Spears and will.i.am lost a significant legal case regarding their 2012 massive hit, "Scream & Shout," to former X Factor UK judge Tulisa.

The 5-Year Lawsuit

The Huffington Post UK revealed that Tulisa claimed for over five years that she deserved royalties for the hit Spears and will.i.am collaboration. While "Scream & Shout" hit the number 1 spot on several United Kingdom charts, Tulisa did not receive any royalties or credit for writing the tune. The people that did collect any fees and credit from the song before Tulisa enacted her lawsuit were the former member of the Black Eyed Peas, Jef Martens, and Jean Baptiste.

As of Wednesday, April 4, Tulisa found out that she could receive 10% of the publishing rights and also any revenue that "Scream & Shout" generates. The Daily Mail reported that Tulisa was going to use "Scream & Shout" as a part of her record, The Female Boss. However, she was disappointed to learn that not only was the single taken from her, but her collaborators gave the tune to Spears.

"It was set to be one of the big songs on her debut album. She didn't let it lie, and took it all the way to the courts and has now won. She just wanted to be recognized as the writer of one of the biggest pop tracks of the last decade," said a Tulisa insider to the Daily Mail.

During the legal battle, Tulisa stated that "Scream & Shout" contained lyrics that she wrote, and a musicologist stated that the "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know" entertainer recorded her part over Tulisa's vocals. Eventually, will.i.am revealed to MTV that Tulisa did originally write the song but added that his collaborators who created the beat behind "Scream & Shout" did not want the two-time X Factor UK judge to have it.

On March 20, it was announced that Spears would become the newest face of Kenzo Worldwide. The company celebrated its new partnership with the former Las Vegas headliner by revisiting one of her iconic looks from the earliest chapter of her career, head-to-toe denim.

Spears was also one of the celebrities to support the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students' efforts to raise money to help the shooting survivors get back on their feet.

The "Stronger" entertainer was also one of the performers that were selected to join Mariah Carey, Camila Cabello, Sugarland, and Nick Jonas in helping Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve with Ryan Seacrest close out 2017 and welcome 2018.
