Power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith both went on the latest "Red Table Talk" episode Friday, July 10, to address Jada's supposed relationship with singer August Alsina.

Jada Pinkett Smith was joined by her husband, Will Smith, at the signature red table. Usually, Jada is joined by her daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield Norris for the talk show on Facebook.

"This red table for me, is all the stuff that's going on in the press," Jada said. She stressed the importance of coming out "to really clear the air." The actress then added that somebody made a statement for her, "that wasn't a statement I made, that went cray-cray."

Will agreed, saying that one of the reasons why he wanted to talk was because of the headlines. "We specifically never said anything," the Fresh Prince said. The couple stressed that they did not say anything, and any headline that purported statements from either of them were not true.

The August Alsina entanglement

Will Smith then asked his wife: "So what happened, Jada?"

The "Gotham" alum said that it was about four and a half years ago that she started a friendship with August Alsina. "It all started with him just needing some help. Me wanting to help his health, his mental state," Pinkett Smith said. Will added that when he first met August, "he was really sick."

Both of them agreed that they were "going through a very difficult time." Will Smith chuckles as he recalls their rough patch, with Jada saying that they "basically broke up."

Pinkett Smith then said that she got into a "different kind of entanglement with August." The 48-year-old actress then clarified previous reports that Will Smith gave his wife his permission to be in a relationship with August Alsina.

"The only person that can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself," Jada clarified. She then explained Alsina's side, saying that she understood how the R&B singer saw the situation. "I think he also wants to make it clear that he's not a homewrecker, which he's not," Pinkett Smith added.

"I think you need to say clearly what happened," Will Smith, poking for more specific answers from his wife. As Jada reiterated that she was in an "entanglement," Smith inquired: "An entanglement? A relationship?"

"Yes, it was a relationship. Absolutely," Jada Pinkett Smith said. She added that she was "in a lot of pain" and "was very broken."

"I would definitely say we did everything that we could to get away from each other, only to realize that that wasn't possible," Jada said of her husband.

August "really, deeply loved" Jada

August Alsina, the 27-year-old Louisiana artist, appeared in the June 30 edition of "The Interview" with Angela Yee. When asked about the singer's rumors being linked with Pinkett Smith in the past, Alsina explained. "I actually sat down with Will [Smith] and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to their life partnership."
