Cardi B makes history in ASCAP's virtual Rhythm & Soul Awards on July 15, Wednesday. The rapper wins again, for the second year in a row, as songwriter of the year. Cardi B is the first female songwriter to win this award twice (consecutive and not) at the annual event, according to Billboard. Mary J Blige (2007), Alicia Key (2005), and Kandi Burruss (2000) recieved the award only once each.

ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards held virtually

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's ASCAP fourth awards event was held virtually. The Rhythm & Soul Awards is given to the top songwriters in the gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. The Home Edition of 2020 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, has special online programming featuring some of the 2020 award winners.

According to Variety, the ASCAP's annual Rhythm & Soul Awards began at 10 am ET on Wednesday. The awards show will run until Friday, July 17.

Cardi B, Meek Mill, DaBaby, and Universal Music Publishing are among the winners of ASCAP's annual Rhythm & Soul Awards. The awards, which recognize the most-performed songs of the year in hip-hop, R&B, and the gospel, will be featured with exclusive photos, video, and acceptance speeches from its top publishers and songwriters, as per the post of ASCAP on Twitter.

   

Chairman of the Board and President of ASCAP Paul Williams have set the stage for the winners this year through a video introduction. Williams said, "As the world stumbles and tries to pick itself up, we must try to offer healing and hope, and a vision for a better future."

ASCAP President added, "That's where your music comes in." Williams believes in his very core that music has the power to lift spirits, move minds and hearts, and inspire real change that needs to be honored.

Another thing to celebrate

Moving on with the award that Cardi B will receive from ASCAP, she and Offset celebrated Kulture's 2nd birthday at their home in Georgia. Cardi and Offset shared little details of the celebratory day through a post on Instagram. Kulture received a tot-sized Bugatti and donned her all pink everything, courtesy of Hennessy Carolina, Cardi B's sister, according to hotnewhiphop.

On Offset's Instagram page, he posted a video of their moment when he gave his daughter a Birkin bag. He also said that it's better to be late than never. Adding, "I Birkin, my baby." As per Business Insider, the Birkin bags can cost from $9,000-$500,000 and tend to increase in value.
