Ahead of the much-anticipated 64th Annual Recording Academy Awards, EGOT winner John Legend will add another Grammy trophy to his awards shelf, bringing his total to thirteen this week.

John Legend is Grammy's First-Ever Global Impact Awardee

The Grammys is awarding the "All of You" hitmaker with the historic first Recording Academy Global Impact Award this coming Black Music Collective event.

Legend will get the award for his personal and professional achievements in the music industry.

Per Recording Academy Co-President Valeisha Butterfield, it would be their "distinct honor" to celebrate John Legend as the inaugural recipient of the prestigious award. (via Variety)

"John is one of the most important artists of our time, someone who leads by example and pushes important boundaries consistently across music, philanthropy and activism. His contributions and impact to music and our culture are unparalleled," Butterfield explains.

More so, Black Music Collective Chair Riggs Morales celebrate Legend's award as they bring together some of the most influential Black creatives for the upcoming event.

Morales also added that the ceremony would reflect the academy's "continued work" as they strive to celebrate the "greatest and brightest in Black music who transcend beyond race and genre."

Grammy 2022 Week's Black Music Collective Event

Summer Walker, who recently dropped a collaboration with SZA and Cardi B, will be performing at the upcoming event. D-Nice will serve as the DJ, while MC Lyten hosts the ceremony.

Oscars 2022 musical director Adam Blackstone will also be the event's musical director as well as the Grammys on Sunday.

Taking place at Resorts World Las Vegas on Saturday, April 2, 2022, the first Black Music Collective event will happen the evening before the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.

John Legend's Influence on Black Music

John's contribution to Black music has nothing but breaking glass ceilings. He currently has twelve Grammys for his music work as he was also one of the coveted artists to achieve EGOT status.

To date, Legend was the youngest and the first black male who has received all major awards in Entertainment, an Emmy (Television), Grammy (Music), Oscars (Film), and a Tony (Theatre).

The Ohio native also launched "FREEAMERICA" in 2014, a movement that aims to end mass imprisonment in the United States.

Aside from this, Legend took part in various initiatives and partnered with United Nations, Red Hot Organization, and World Economic Forum for his philanthropic work and benefit concerts.

He currently chairs the Black Music Collective as an Honorary Member and the Recording Academy's Board of Trustees.
