Will Smith has been one of the most talked-about personalities in the past few months mainly because of his infamous encounter with comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

Many consider the infamous moment to go down as one of the messiest moments in pop culture and in television history. While the controversy sparks debate among people about whether Rock's joke warrants Smith's violence - the discussion might be never-ending.

But contrary to his show of force on global television, Will Smith has been receiving the opposite comments on his music.

Will Smith Offended When People Call Him THIS?

Actor-singer Will Smith recently opened up to David Letterman in a new pre-recorded interview with him during an episode of "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction."

The interview was taken before the Oscars 2022 telecast, where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on live television after making jokes about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith's alopecia disease.

In the interview, Letterman lauded Smith on the comedic value that he has brought in during his brief stint as a singer/rapper. Smith, known as Fresh Prince, was involved in a hip-hop music duo with DJ Jazzy Jeff in the late 1980s and early 1990s. (via Page Six)

"That was really our major distinguishing quality at the time. It was comedy, it was punchlines, it was fun. We stood out in a really good way. We sort of had our own lane," Smith said in response to the compliment.

Asked whether he felt pressured into quitting music and stuck to acting, Smith said that he did not, as he "hated" when people called him "soft" for not cursing on his songs.

The 53-year-old singer-actor also revealed that he had made a "conscious move" not to do such a thing because of something her grandmother said to her when he was still young.

"Dear Willard, truly intelligent people do not have to use words like these to express themselves. Please show the world that you're as smart as we think you are. Love, Gigi," Smith's grandmother said at the time upon finding out his lyric notebook full of curse words.

Aside from his music, Will Smith also talked about how he experienced domestic abuse when he was still young, his parent's contentious relationship, and his recent memoir, "Will."

Will Smith's episode on David Letterman's "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" is currently available on Netflix worldwide.
