The director of "Elvis" has now revealed why he did not cast Harry Styles in the role.

The "As It Was" singer stated that he tried out for the role of the rock and roll classic in Baz Luhrmann's biopic.

Though Styles is now a well-known actor, it was discovered that fans might have watched him play Elvis Presley.

In an interview last month, the British singer-songwriter told Howard Stern (via Capital FM) that Elvis was one of the first persons he met, other from his family, when he was very young.

Because of this, he thought it was something he should go for because there something "very sacred surrounding him."

"It piqued my interest," Styles continued.

He did, however, explain that he was not sad when he was not picked to play the role, admitting that he doesn't even look like the "Can't Help Falling In Love" singer and was not insulted when the job went to Austin Butler.

"I feel that if a director thinks like I'm not the ideal person for the character, then it's better for them, and it's better for me," Styles added.

"If they believe the movie would be better with someone else, then I don't want to do it because I don't want to be the not-as-good version," the "Watermelon Sugar" hitmaker continued.

Why Harry Styles Isn't Elvis Presley in The Movie

Baz Luhrmann finally explains why Austin Butler was chosen over Harry Styles.

In an interview with Fitzy & Wippa, the director stated that he saw Styles as "an icon himself," which was a major problem.

According to Just Jared, "Harry is a good performer." I'd collaborate with him on something. Harry's actual problem is that he's Harry Styles. He's already a celebrity."

"I believe Harry and I arrived to a place, honestly, I mean, he was simply anxious to put the suit on and explore," he continued.

Fans' Reactions to the Director's Remarks

However, fans' reactions to Luhrmann's remarks have been divided.

"So he's saying Austin isn't an icon, got it," one person believes.

Another individual thought, "Good! Allow emerging actors their opportunity to shine. Enough with casting big-name actors."

According to a third social media, the director simply stated that Styles "doesn't have the acting skills."

However, a fourth observer recognized logic in the director's remarks, adding, "Casting someone with as big of a reputation and career as Harry would've made it more about Harry Styles than of Elvis and his life."

"So, as much as I like Harry and enjoy watching him in films, I understand why he wasn't cast."

"Elvis" is out on June 24.
