In the music industry, differences among artists and musicians are inevitable. Especially with business and personal matters mixing together, some take it beyond what it is actually just about.

For then close friends John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer, the current status of their friendship seemed to take a toll because of their differences in aspects the latter has recently revealed.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarists John Frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer REAL Friendship Status

In a new appearance on the "Tuna on Toast With Stryker" podcast the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist opened up the current status of his friendship with returning guitarist John Frusciante on the band.

The two's friendship stems back beyond his recruitment to the band in 2009. Touring with RHCP in 1999 for "Californication," Klinghoffer was still in his band, Bicycle Thief at the time, where he and Frusciante became friends.

In the years after their tours, the two have become frequent collaborators, including four of John Frusciante's solo albums, and their huge collaborative album in 2005, "A Sphere in the Heart of Silence."

"I spent a lot of time being friends with John when we were younger. He's a very dedicated artist and musician. And we spent a lot of time together. And we made records together," Klinghoffer said.

However, their friendship took a sour turn when Klinghoffer was eventually recruited at the Red Hot Chili Peppers to replace Frusciante who was exiting at the time.

Klinghoffer revealed that his friendship with Frusciante had been "pretty non-existent" as "it's been that way for 10 years."

At the time that Klinghoffer was announced to take over the guitars for the band, he revealed that Frusciante was "having a hard time" with the fact that they could even consider going on without him - thus the start of the animosity between the two of them.

In December 2019, Red Hot Chili Peppers announced that Klinghoffer would exit the band after ten years, with Frusciante returning again to helm the guitars.

Klinghoffer revealed that there was no "animosity" between him and the band, nor with Frusciante, as it is his "place to be in that band."

"I couldn't be more grateful to them for all the experiences I've had with them. My only regret is not making more music with them," the guitarist said.
