Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, was recently sentenced to probation, home detention, and a hefty fine for his recent criminal conviction.

Discussions on what sentence Petty deserves after his felony conviction has sparked debates because of his team's proposal for home detention only.

But in the recent ruling of a Los Angeles court, it seemed like the decision was in favor of Kenneth and Nicki.

Kenneth Petty Convicted of Attempted Rape in 1995

In April 1995, 16-year-old Kenneth Petty was convicted for attempting first-degree rape in connection with a 1994 sexual assault that occurred when he was 15 years old, and Julian Hough, the female victim, was a year older.

Since then, Petty's name has come up on the New York State's Sex Offender Registry. He was then sentenced to between 18 to 54 months in state prison, but Correction documents state that he only served under four years and got out in 1999.

However, this was not the first time he was imprisoned. In 2006, he was also convicted of first-degree manslaughter, serving almost seven years before being released on parole in 2013.

The issue remained relatively mum after that.

Nicki Minaj, Kenneth Petty Relationship Publicized the Latter's Criminal History

However, in 2018, the multi-platinum rapper began dating Kenneth Petty, which turned out to be his childhood friend. Since their relationship was publicized, Minaj's detractor began looking into Petty's history - discovering that he was a convicted felon and a registered sex offender.

With news outlets picking up the revelations, Nicki Minaj hit back on the vile comments about his then-boyfriend, noting that he was 15 and the victim was 16 and in a relationship when the incident happened.

In October 2019, Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty finally tied the knot after a year of dating and moved to California.

Kenneth Petty Arrested in 2020

After moving to California, Kenneth Petty was arrested again for not registering as a sex offender in the state.

The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) requires registered sex offenders in other states to be registered in the state they are moving to, which Petty "knowingly" failed to do, which results in in a federal conviction.

Jennifer Hough, the woman Petty victimized in 1994, urged the presiding judge to reject a plea deal as she was allegedly harassed to recant her statements to lighten the conviction. This move birthed a different harassment suit for Minaj and Petty.

In 2021, Petty accepted a plea deal for failing to register, thus the conviction.

Kenneth Petty Sentenced to Probation and Home Detention

Last Jul. 6, 2022, Kenneth Petty was finally sentenced in Los Angeles to probation for three years, home detention for a year, and a $55,000 fine.

However, this would not be the only thing Petty would face in the coming years. Despite Minaj's recent exclusion on the lawsuit, Hough's harassment suit for him is still pushing through.
