Queen has recently accomplished something that no other band has done before, and the current members feel that Freddie Mercury would be proud.

After a painful two-year delay, Queen and Adam Lambert have been busy touring the UK and Europe in recent months. But now, as the band prepares for their farewell tour, which will include a stop in Europe, Adam, Brian May, and Roger Taylor have received some unexpected news.

On July 19, the Official Charts Company reported that their 1981 album Queen "Greatest Hits" had sold 7 million copies in the United Kingdom, a feat no other band had ever achieved.

According to the BBC, the record was already Britain's best-selling album, with 23 Platinum certifications. However, the combination of physical sales, streams, and downloads makes this an even more remarkable achievement.

As of this writing, Queen "Greatest Hits" had over 1.26 billion total UK streams, with the album's most-streamed song being "Bohemian Rhapsody," which has over 240 million streams and counting in the UK alone.

Brian and Roger both expressed their gratitude for the wonderful news, which comes on the occasion of Brian's 75th birthday.

"No album in history has sold seven million copies," the guitarist says of the record-breaking sales. "Thank you so much; we appreciate it. The British public's incomparably superior taste has resulted in this record becoming the best-selling album in history. Thank you very much; we are honored and humbled."

Brian also praised the Brits, saying they had "infinitely-great taste," which helped their album become the "biggest-selling album in history."

The greatest hits by Queen contains well-known classic rock songs including "We Will Rock You," "Don't Stop Me," and "Bohemian Rhapsody."

In early June, the album also marked its 1000th week on the Official Albums Chart, a milestone and a first for Queen that no other band has ever achieved.
