Busta Rhymes is receiving BMI's R&B and Hip-Hop Icon Award this September at the LIV Nightclub in Miami Beach, Florida.

The 50-year-old hip-hop giant will be receiving the organization's top honor because of his contribution to Hip-hop music when it comes to his music, production, and songwriting.

Placed as one of the Top 50 Lyricists of all time, Busta Rhymes has been widely recognized for his pen game on his 10 studio albums and 3 collaborative albums.

Busta Rhymes Receives 2022 BMI's R&B and Hip-Hop Icon Award

On September 7, Trevor George Smith Jr., most widely known as Busta Rhymes, will be receiving Broadcast Music Inc.'s (BMI) R&B and Hip-Hop Icon Award.

The Icon Award is the organization's highest honor given to an artist.

"Through his award-winning solo work, countless collaborations and acting, Busta is a true innovator in every sense of the word and has made a dynamic impact on legions of fans and music creators worldwide. His quick wit and intricate rapping style have made him legendary, inspiring many young performers to follow in his footsteps," BMI Vice President for Creatives (Atlanta) Catherine Brewton said in a statement.

According to a Variety report, the BMI Awards were also thrilled to be returning to Miami for an in-person event this September 7 to celebrate music creators behind today's most-performed songs.

BMI President and CEO Mike O'Neill will be hosting the 2022 BMI R&B and Hip-hop Awards. During the ceremony, awards for the BMI R&B/hip-hop songwriter, producer, and publisher of the year will be unveiled.

Last year, Doja Cat's "Say So" takes the award for Song of the Year, Roddy Rich as Songwriter of the Year, Metro Boomin as Producer of the Year, while Kobalt Music Publishing takes Publisher of the Year.

Busta Rhymes Awards and Nominations

MTV has considered Busta Rhymes as one of hip-hop's greatest visual artists, and surely, his work is recognized - from his songwriting to production.

Currently, Busta holds six BET Awards for Best Hip Hop Video, Best Live Performance, and Move the Crowd Award, among many others.

Nominated for twelve GRAMMY Awards, Busta Rhymes is in the same ranks as Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry as big music artists who were still not given any gramophones despite their booming careers.

He was nominated six times for Best Rap Solo Performance, twice for Best Rap Performance by a Duo/Group, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, Best Music Video, and Album of the Year.
