In early August, Diddy and Timbaland had a heated exchange on Instagram live about R&B, specifically about its alleged "death."

R&B artist Usher is not too happy with Diddy's claims: "When I do hear people, even like Puff saying, you know R&B is dead, he sounds nuts to me."

"It sounds crazy. You know, especially knowing he was a pioneer in understanding and beneficiary of it," he said in an interview with SiriusXM's Bevelations.

He then explained how R&B and Hip-Hop's history has been intertwined, "R&B created the breath of life that was breathed into Hip-Hop. [...] There would be no Hip-Hop if there were not R&B, so it's blasphemous to hear me say, to hear people say anything, especially Hip-Hop cats, to say anything about R&B."

'R&B Is Timeless'

Diddy stirred the top with the question, "Who killed R&B?" And while Timbaland did his best to put in a word, Diddy was passionate about the topic, exclaiming: "R&B is muthaf**kin' dead as of right now."

In the interview, Usher emphasized the state of R&B, calling it "timeless," and how it's "not going to go away."

Bevy Smith, Bevelation's host, noted that Diddy's claims were most likely a marketing ploy for his upcoming album, and Diddy "didn't really mean" his claims.

However, the King of R&B is having none of it because he then says that celebrating something of decline is the better way of going about it.

Diddy Clarifies

After receiving backlash from his Instagram Live session with Timbaland, Diddy went on Twitter to explain his side, saying that it was not meant to disrespect anyone and that the conversation was purely out of love and "to bring attention to R&B."

He also added that R&B needs love, vulnerability, and support.
